RAM collects nothing. This page explains what that means in practice, and the two places where something does leave your phone because you asked it to.
There is no account
RAM has no sign-up, no login and no email field. Nothing identifies you to us, because there is no "us" on the other end of anything. You never tell RAM who you are, so it never knows.
Nothing is collected, and nothing is sent
Your notes, categories, reminders and attachments are written to this app's own storage on your device. They are not uploaded, backed up to a cloud, or synced. There is no server to send them to and no analytics, crash reporting or advertising code in the app.
What happens on your device stays there
The things that look like they might need a server do not:
- Category detection uses a small machine learning model that is part of the app and runs on your device: Granite Embedding Small English R2 by IBM, under the Apache License 2.0, run with ONNX Runtime by Microsoft, under the MIT License. Your text is turned into numbers on the device and compared with example notes that ship with the app. There is no API call and no cloud service, and the model sends nothing anywhere. Where it cannot run, nothing is suggested and the note is saved without a category.
- Reading dates out of a sentence — "tomorrow at 3pm", "amanhã às 15h30" — is the same kind of local text matching.
- Search runs over what is already on the device.
- Reminders are scheduled with the operating system's own local notifications. No push service is involved.
The two moments something leaves
Both are your own action, and neither happens on its own:
- Opening a link you saved hands that address to your browser, which then behaves like your browser normally does.
- Exporting a backup writes an encrypted file wherever you choose to save it. If you put it in a cloud drive, it is in that cloud drive — encrypted, but there.
Permissions, and why
- Camera and photo library — only when you attach a photo to an entry. The photo is stored in the app, not sent anywhere.
- Microphone — only when you record a voice note. The recording is audio, stored in the app. RAM does not transcribe it and does not listen at any other time.
- Face ID — only to unlock a category you chose to lock. The check is performed by iOS; RAM receives a yes or no and never sees any biometric data.
- Notifications — only to deliver the reminders you set.
Refuse any of these and the rest of RAM keeps working.
Backups
A backup is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a passphrase you choose, derived with PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256. We cannot read it and we cannot recover it. It is also the only copy: if you lose the passphrase, the backup is gone.
Deleting your data
Settings has a "Delete all data" action that erases everything on the spot. Deleting the app does the same thing. There is nothing held anywhere else that survives either, and no account to close.
Children
RAM is a personal notes app with no social features, no user-to-user content and no advertising. It collects no data from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this ever stops being true — if a future version syncs, or adds an account — this page changes before that version ships, and the app will say so in Settings.
